Ahoy! Looks like the new issue of our favorite art journal is out. It’s Nice That Issue #3 is 128 pages of brainy, eye-popping fun. Numero tres includes interviews with photographer Dan Tobin Smith, a feature called “Graphics vs. Poetry” by WLYS fave Geoff McFetridge, work by Adam Voorhes and Taizo Yamamoto (among others), and an interview with the esteemed graphic designer Milton Glaser (AWESOME.)

As eternal students of the creative process, we’re equally charmed by the Flickr set documenting each step of Issue #3’s production.

Three cheers to Will Hudson, Alex Bec, Florencia Soto and the rest of the team for their impressive contribution to bookshelves everywhere. Y’all should get your orders in swiftly!

We have been working on raising money and awareness our close-friend, Kenny Brime who has been diagnosed Chronic Lymphatic Leukemia.

We’ve raised approximately $5000 thus far just from pure donations. Amazing!
We just finished a benefit shirt for Kenny with Bad Brains and ROIR Records to further help Kenny and to expand awareness of Leukemia in general.

I’ll be releasing the shirts on Tuesday, April 6 through the Solitary Arts site. Two shirts and only 48 of each were made. Each shirt comes with the Solitary Arts inner tag. Artwork is original/official Bad Brains, the ROIR Records logo, and Kenny’s own artwork adorning both the front and back of each shirt.

Looking for something to pore over as you sip your cocoa by the fireplace this winter? Try a spell with Geoff McFetridge’s brand-new Recent Work, a beautiful 16-page collection of Where The Wild Things Are-related work that the artist completed for his old pal Spike, with the influences of Sonny Gerasimowicz (who invented the creatures for the film) and the Art Direction of K.K. Barrett.

Perfect for bookshelf or xmas stocking alike.

Went by Geoff’s studio the other day to work on the final credits for the movie. He is the graphic designer that did the titles for the trailer as well as a bunch of other stuff for our film. We’ve been working with him for a long time. He did Chocolate stuff back in the day and a couple issues of Grand Royal Magazine. I love wandering around his studio and looking at all his stuff. Here’s a a sampling.

Mika Miko’s Totion

Published July 14, 2009 by Graham

Reasons to love this music video:

1. Great band (obvs.) and great song
2. Dinosaurs drinking apple juice
3. The masks
4. Wardrobe by Brian Lichtenberg
5. Shot at the Cabazon Dinosaurs, from Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure (they’re now a creationist museum)
6. Songs that end with explosions/asteroids are always good

The clip’s director, Steven Andrew Garcia, has a blog called Brain Sheer where he posts rad behind the scenes photos along with portraits of people and bands we love, like Where The Wild Things Are graphic designer Geoff McFetridge, Kim Gordon, Abe Vigoda– and whaddya know, he’s even got a couple nice pictures of Spike! Here’s a shot of Mika Miko minus the dinosaur masks and one of Geoff proudly showing off his bike:
