Sendak at The Opera

In the late 1970s, Maurice Sendak entered into a collaboration with British composer Oliver Knussen that resulted in a pair of liberettis based upon Where the Wild Things Are and Higglety Pigglety Pop! It was the beginning of a long career in the opera for Sendak, who quickly discovered his love for set design and went on to add his unmistakable personal touch to any number of esteemed operas across the globe. And it all began with his most beloved characters setting their story to song:
