    It’s a shame they had to kill the entire superorganism to study it. Maybe one day some creatures will pour a zillion tons of concrete into the New York subway system (with people still inside) and then dig it up.

    The really amazing fact is that the entire colony was constructed in total darkness. I’ve read elsewhere that all worker ants are sterile females, and that the queen of a colony can live to be 21 years old. Such a tiny creature, yet so highly evolved.
