The worst thing about summer is the lack of gift-giving holidays. Unless you’re lucky enough to have a birthday during the hot months, there’s an endless stretch of time without any hope of receiving a single gift. It sucks, but what can you do? There’s just no occasion for presents.
Unless you rewind back to your camp days, when friendship bracelets and dreamcatchers made up their own gift economy. The young jewelry designer Lizzie Fortunato has made just such a trip, composing her designs out of rosettes, buttons, charms, liberty-prints, poker chips and ikat sourced from far abroad and confected into haute versions of what used to symbolize everlasting friendship. Sigh!
